Genotoul Societal 2024 workshops

  |   Events

This year, the Genotoul Societal platform is organising a thematic workshop for ethical reflection on “Digital health: opportunities and risks”, in 3 parts:

  • Part 1: Research and digital health, 28 March 2024, 1.30 pm – 4.30 pm
  • Part 2: Digitalisation, care and medical treatment, 25 April 2024, 1.30 – 4.30 pm
  • Part 3: Health and digital technology: emancipation or alienation? 6 June 2024, 1.30 – 4.30 p.m.

For each track, you will hear from specialists with whom you will have the opportunity to exchange views at the end of the presentation.

These workshops are aimed at the scientific community and the general public (hybrid format: Toulouse, Faculty of Medicine and videoconference).

Summary: Digital technologies are presented by the United Nations as an essential solution for meeting the challenges of the millennium (United Nations Sustainable Development Goals). In particular, the digital transformation of healthcare could fill gaps in access to quality care and improve our healthcare system’s ability to prevent, diagnose and treat disease (e.g. through artificial intelligence, robotisation, e-health, etc.). However, these technologies also present risks for human rights and fundamental freedoms, which can lead to significant individual and collective harm that must be anticipated and avoided.

What are the trajectories of current digital innovations that will shape tomorrow’s healthcare system? What issues do these technologies raise for medical practice and research? What impact might they have on individual health and on the transformation of society?

The aim of these workshops is to present and discuss the main opportunities and risks associated with the development of digital health technologies, as well as the ways in which ethical and human rights standards can provide a framework for their development and use.

The UNESCO Chair in Ethics, Science and Society is associated with this event.
