The genome of the rose decrypted: from the origin of modern roses to the characteristics of the flower

The rose bush: an ornamental plant emblematic of the history of humanity from a cultural and economic point of view. An international consortium involving INRA, ENS Lyon, CEA, CNRS and University Claude Bernard Lyon 1, decrypted the rose genome.This work allowed to trace the respective contributions of European and Chinese roses to the modern rose genome and to identify all the genes involved in the pathways of biosynthesis of perfume and color.Published in Nature Genetics on April 30th, 2018, this study is essential to design varieties that will optimize the qualities of the flower in a context of global changes.
